This is the latest house from Barnesworth Anubis – the Lakeside Cottage, available right now at Collabor88. I really love the layout of this house — I’m always a sucka for cottages, anyway, and this feels very nostalgic to me. I’ve always loved the simplicity of cottages like this: subtle architectural details that are lovely but don’t steal the spotlight, a great front porch for enjoying nice weather, and an overall quiet and unassuming presence. I see a lot of houses like this in RL, here in the southern US, and they’re all precious to me. ♥

The Lakeside is quite a bit larger than it looks from the outside – plenty of room for living, dining, kitchen, bath, and a bedroom or 2, even an office, if you’re creative with your space. The textures are quite flat, if you’re someone who generally does NOT have shadows turned on (like me) or who uses a brighter windlight as opposed to the defaults (also like me). But, the house is mod, and it seems like it would be pretty easy to retexture the walls – you probably would have to play around with the alignment on some of them – but it’s doable. If you use shadows, then as you can see in the pic above, the house looks amazing. So clean and simple – very peaceful, really.

This gorgeous contraption above is the Wringer Bench from Dutchie. I lovelovelove this – it looks super realistic as it is, but it’s also set up for materials to really make it come to life. (If you don’t know what I mean by ‘materials’ for SL, do a quick google for it. It’s exciting!)

The Food Fair is officially open! I mentioned this a while back, when I first heard about it, and I was very excited! As it turns out, it’s not quite what I had imagined, which was an entire fair devoted to mesh food/food props. It’s really just for all things food-themed or inspired by food. With that said, though, definitely take a quick browse through there – it’s only 2 sims and laid out in a very easy-to-navigate pattern – because there are some great actual food items sprinkled in there. These are some of my favorites from Cuplrit, Haute House, and Shai.

One of the most exciting items at this month’s Arcade, in my opinion, is the Teardrop Trailer from Tegan Serin and floorplan. I’m a little biased, sure, since Tegan is my music soul mate, but seriously – look at this preciousness!

That’s just one of the cutest things in all of ever. It’s available in a ton of gorgeous colors that you can try for in the gacha machine, including a few rare options that include a lovely blanket draped across the roof – perfect for gazing up at the stars. The trailers all come with a few cute animations for you, your pals, and your close pals. Perfection!

Also at the Arcade are the Anywhere Lawn Chairs from Winter Thorn and {what next}. These are so nostalgic to me — if you’re old like I am, you remember the days when these were the chairs that everyone had. They left terrible marks on the backs of your legs, and that’s what summer was all about. Right? Anyway, you can play for these at the Arcade – the coolest thing about them is that they truly are “anywhere” chairs. They’re meant to be worn as an attachment so that you always have somewhere to sit, even when you can’t rez a chair. Love it! (Please note these aren’t able to be used as just, you know, regular chairs. You can rez them as props, like I did for the picture, but you can’t sit in them. The sitting only works when you’re wearing them.)

That great campfire and cooking stand is from Froukje Hoorenbeek and Dutchie. She’s got a great mesh set with the campfire, firepit, some lovely logs for sitting around the fire – a great set for your outdoor spaces!

Remember when I told you guys about a new project in the works, from the creative genius mind of Pitsch Parx? Well, that project turned into SL Interior Forecast, and the first volume has been published!

Here’s what Pitsch has said with the release of this first volume:

This new inspiration book will be devoted to SL interior design, and we intend to release forecast books four times a year.

‘Inspiration’ is aimed at interior, garden and prefab designers, texture artists, but of course anybody can pick it up and get inspired!

We want to make clear that the Inspiration books are not meant to be a commercial magazine: this book is, and always will be, the result of creative collaboration between people from across Second Life ™ and it is non-profit making with everyone giving their time for free.

Our plan is to join talented people from all possible disciplines and together, give our readers ideas and inspiration and tips to style their SL lives.
Our objective is for you to enjoy reading this book and to be inspired to create fresh designs for your home.

The Inspiration books will be very visual… mostly a trend forecast and inspiration showcase, your guide to SL’s stylish decor and interiors.
We try to get away from the “classic” concept of magazines as we know them now and we will be primarily focused on styling your SL home.

I got a copy of the book,  and I will be completely honest: my mind was blown. BLOWN. My expectations were exceeded like whoa, and they were pretty high already. The styling — AMAZING. The photos — GORGEOUS. And there’s so much of it!! This is a huge book!!! I don’t want to give it all away, so I tried to pick out just some of my absolute favorite pics…which was not easy to do. But here’s to your enticement…

Omgah. Stunning. If you’re looking for inspiration, you need this book. If you just like looking at home & garden porn — and who doesn’t?? — then you need this book. There are color palettes and textures and tips and so many themes…and really, like I said, the styling and photography are just amazing. I am so very, very impressed. ♥

It’s completely free – you just need to sign up at a kiosk in-world. I’ve got one at the entrance to Second Spaces, so please stop by there and click! [SLurl]

Be sure to also check out the accompanying website, right here. It seems to still be in progress for updating, but what you’ll find there are shop credits for the great items you see in the beautiful pics.

The next edition, Vol. Nr II, Winter into Spring 2013, is planned for October 2012. CAN’T WAIT.

The one where I put my inventory to work.

I’ve never spent a lot of time just decorating for fun in SL (oddly enough), and I want to try to get into that habit. I’ve recently started taking fashion pics just for fun…like a look-of-the-day thing…and so I want to try doing occasional room-of-the-day pics for the blog. Here goes. 🙂
