Designer Reviews, and then some!

Standard

Well, I am just a blogging fool recently! As promised yesterday, I’ve got a few reviews for you, and also some pics from the grand re-opening of Another Man’s Treasure. Here we go!

Tandem Home Decor & Furniture: Midori Leandros, one of the creators behind Tandem, contacted me for a review. She and her design partner, Jinkx Jewel, are both quite ancient in SL terms, with rez dates from 2005; according to Midori’s note, Tandem is a recent endeavor. I’m not sure how recent, but they do have a sizable inventory in place already of furniture, accessories, and prefabs.

What you’ll find is a nice, open, modern build, very easy to browse. I find the textures to be a bit on the flat side – but, of course, we all know that I am a texture snob – and they’re certainly not unacceptable by any means. The overall style of the pieces is contemporary and very, very reminiscent of The Loft, with a good measure of Del Sol and Ramos mixed in. Now, just like in RL, it’s inevitable to find a lot of similar styles in furnishings, and it’s natural to have multiple designers offering the same types of fundamental pieces. My preference would be to see Midori and Jinkx distinguish themselves in some way, to find their style, twist, etc that gives them some individuality. Having said that, if you’re looking for a new place to shop for basic contemporary pieces, then certainly give Tandem a look-see.

A few things that caught my eye – the Tiffany Cream Fireplace and the Flame Keeper African Statue. I really like the statue, just a nice exotic touch of whimsy. šŸ™‚

Next is the Patio Dining Table and the Malibu Beach Bed. The Patio Dining Table isn’t my style at all, but I do like the way they put the chairs together, and the fact that they made the fabric texture slightly transparent to simulate a mesh. Very nice realistic touch!

tandem 2Tandem also offers quite a selection of artwork and accessories that are a bit on the exotic side, which is nice. You can see it all here!

DAHaus by Daedalus Brink: I’m pretty sure that I’ve come across DAHaus before, but I think it was quite a while ago. Apparently, Daedalus and I have a mutual friend, and that friend asked me to swing by and check out DAHaus again…so I did. I think I can sum it up just this simply: if you want funky mod, go to DAHaus. There’sĀ  lots to see, be sure to click through the vendor rez displays, and it’s almost all in the line of 50s-70s modern. Great details and accents, and lots of groovy colors that make me all nostalgic for back-in-the-day.

Definitely take some time to check out DAHaus. It’s a fairly small shop, hence the use of vendor rez displays, but there really is a lot more to see. There are some nice beds in the back on the first floor, and some smaller pieces up on the second floor. You’ll also find a few mid-century mod classics, like the Eames Lounge (you can never go wrong with an Eames Lounge, not matter what your decor!). See it all here!

Another Man’s Treasure: I told you yesterday about AMT’s grand re-opening; I hope you stopped by! I did get a few minutes to swing by and snap some pics – and I’m just gonna show them to you here, no words needed! Ok, except for these words: Stormy has some awesome furniture that you need to go see! Yes, you!!!

Gwendolyn Bieler Interior Design: Gwendolyn is participating in the LoveBirds Couples Hunt, going on now through September 15th. Her contribution is the charming Charleston Chaise, seen below. It includes 3 animated poses, great for couples, and the Sorbet version is what you’ll get from the hunt. There are also versions in tropical green and yellow, available for sale in the shop. Be sure to stop by Gwendolyn’s shop, look for the pink & blue intertwined hearts, and there’s the prize!

*Home Expo 2009* My finds so far!

Standard

Day 1 of the Expo was great! Good traffic, I saw lots of green dots on the map, hanging out at the main stage, and I had lots of visitors to my exhibit. Yay! I did find time to explore 2 of the 4 sims, and I’m going to share some of the cool stuff I found. šŸ™‚

FIRST – let me say this: go the the Expo. šŸ™‚ Here’s the SLurl to my exhibit — start there and then make your way around. Be sure to spend some time at the main stage area — there are raffle items as well as silent auction items! I have not yet checked out all the silent auction items – I’ll do that soon – but I can tell you that I donated my animation services as part of the auction. šŸ™‚ Five custom furniture animations (single pose), of the winner’s choosing. Woot!

Ok, now for the good stuff!

MarcoPolo Furniture by marcopol Oh – a new designer to me – some nice modern furniture, with a bit of a funky pop-art vibe. Two pieces I like are the Table with Wheels and the Square Diamond Dresser:

marco-allHouses for You by Kira Spaatz – another new designer for me. There are a few prefabs set up for display…it’s the Arabian tent that caught my eye. Great texturing – it feels very rich!

arabian-tent-allBelle Belle by Leyla Firefly – of course, one of my favorites. šŸ™‚ Leyla is showing the Mystique Dreamhouse, and this is also her RFL item, so all proceeds from this purchase will go to Relay For Life! I think this may be Belle Belle’s first house, and it’s a great one. I didn’t take pics of the inside, because I want you to go see for yourself :). It’s a nice size without being too big, and has lots of nice artchitectural details.

Another Man’s Treasure by Stormy McCallister – Stormy has been very busy! I ran into her Sunday night while she was setting up…and I was snooping ;)…and we played with the poses in her new living set. It’s full of really sweet, cute couples poses, so be sure to take a pal with you to try them out. šŸ™‚ I really love the colors she’s used in the Arata Spring Collection…and, as always, her fireplace is the awesome!

amt_all2Greene Concept by Peter Stindberg & Ivanova Shostakovich – Greene Concept’s exhibit is catty-corner to mine, which is nice since Peter is my pal. šŸ™‚ Their display looks great — very eye-catching and modern. They’ve got all their staples displayed, with their multitude of gorgeous texture options, and also a few new pieces that I love! The Twisty Bench is awesome – it’s like the modern “twist” on the Victorian conversation bench…and the Brushed Coffee Table is a great match for the Emphasis chairs.

Sentiments by Sidda – Sidda Jubilee – Sidda is set up across from me, another shop that’s new to me. She has several styles of really precious swings — and you know I love a swing! – both singles and bench swings. I love the ribbon detail!

Organica by Aki Shichiroji – dear readers, you know I ā¤ Organica. So I took a picture of her entire exhibit. It’s all perfection and you need a little bit of everything. šŸ™‚ I already have most of everything, AND I picked up the pack of ferns. You can never have enough ferns.

That’s all for now! More pictures coming as soon as I get out and explore the other two sims. Get out there yourself, and enjoy!

Another Man’s Treasure

When I first found AMT, the shop was located in a giant treasure chest. It was awesome. šŸ™‚ Designer Stormy McCallister has moved on to other locations, and now has two completely separate shops that you need to check out. I’ll tell you what I think of when I think of AMT: men. Make of that what you will šŸ˜‰ — I think of men because I think Stormy’s designs are very masculine and warm. Lots of wood, very no-nonsense fabrics, quite grand in scale — great for guys, in my opinion. I have sent several guy friends to AMT when they’ve asked about decorating, and they’ve always been impressed with the offerings there. I’m going to give you a peek at both locations today…so on to my favorite things!
